A Message from REDCo President, Bob Cook

We have just completed an incredibly busy five months of prospect activity at REDCo and have some new announcements coming in the near future.

El Paso Income Growth Among Tops in Major Metros

In recent months, we have reported that the region is receiving some high level accolades and attention from impressive publications such as Financial Times (London) and Defense News (Washington, D.C.).  The community received more attention last week from “Bizjournals”, the online media division of American City Business Journals, the nation’s largest publisher of metropolitan business journals.  The publication published a study of per capita income (PCI) growth in the nation’s top 100 metropolitan areas.  The study’s results were drawn from a 25 part formula, aimed at determining the most consistently performing metro areas in terms of PCI growth.  El Paso ranked #1 in the State of Texas and #12 nationally with 257.9% PCI growth from 1980 to 2005.  El Paso also ranked #1 in the State of Texas and #4 overall in PCI growth from 2000-2005, growing at 25.3%. Houston ranked #15 in the study and was the only other Texas city in the top 25.

Site Consultants Play Fazio Course

In May, two Dallas-based site consultants traveled to El Paso for a two-day familiarization tour which included a round of golf at the new Butterfield Trail Golf Club.  Steve Yellin (CH2MHill) and Christine Sullivan (Site Selection Group, LLC) participated in briefings by REDCo, MVEDA and Desarrollo Economico de Ciudad Juarez and an aerial tour of the entire region.  REDCo partnered with the El Paso International Airport and Kemper Sports to cap off the tour with a round of golf at the new Fazio course two weeks before it opened to the public.  Special thanks goes out to these partners for making this a memorable visit for Steve and Christine.

REDCo Welcomes Summer Intern -- Drew Silverthorn

Drew began working as the Research Intern for REDCo on May 15th.  Drew was a 2006 graduate of Franklin and a member of the football team. He recently completed his freshman year at Texas Tech University, and plans to major in Finance or Accounting. Drew said he chose to accept the REDCo intern position in order to “gain helpful work experience in the business world and to explore the importance of economic development in our region while I am pursuing a degree in business”.  So far at REDCo, Drew has helped put together a directory of biomedical companies in El Paso/Juarez and organized the REDCo PowerPoint library.  Drew is an exceptionally intelligent young man who has provided invaluable assistance gathering data to help REDCo respond to the significant increase in client requests. Drew’s parents are Tom and Stephanie Silverthorn, and his brother, Mark, just completed his freshman year at Franklin High School.
